Invitation to comment on sustainable development consensus document
A global consensus document is being prepared on a "common language" for sustainable development professionals - this is your invitation to comment.
Everyone recognizes the indispensible roles of technical experts in sustainability - these experts are architects, engineers, land planners, landscape architects, real property valuers, environmental attorneys, and accountants. This group of experts are typically specialists with a narrow focus on only their concepts, terminologies, and theories. However, this specialist focus is contrary to the holistic approach to solving complex, interrelated, and multi-dimensional problems of sustainable development.
In order to provide a “common language” for professionals to be able to more effectively communicate on sustainable development issues, identify strategic collaborations and understand the interrelationships among different sustainable strategies, the Institute of Green Professionals (IGP) is developing a consensus opinion on the basic multidisciplinary sustainability knowledge needed for individuals working and/or teaching in these professional specialties.
The IGP faculty includes academics from Harvard, University of Pennsylvania, McGill University, University of New Mexico, Boston College, College of Charleston, Rice University, and professionals from each specialty. IGP is engaging hundreds of universities, academics and thousands of professionals and their professional organizations throughout the world (e.g., RICS, AIA, ASLA, ABA, AICPA) in order to improve sustainability education - the consensus document will be utilized to prepare a free online open-access course and will be provided to all participants for the development of sustainability education programs.
