Bio/Research Summary:
Deden Rukmana is an assistant professor and coordinator of the graduate program in Urban Studies and Planning program at the Savannah State University. He received a PhD in urban and regional planning from Florida State University in 2006 and completed master’s degrees from the Bandung Institute of Technology in Indonesia and the University of Southern California. Prior to joining Savannah State University, he worked as a planning analyst with the Division of Community Planning of the Florida Department of Community Affairs in Tallahassee, Florida. He had also experience as a planner for about five years in Indonesia. His primary research interests include homelessness and poverty, Geographic Information Systems, spatial analysis, housing and community development, historic preservation and international planning. He has authored several refereed journal articles, including articles published in Journal of Planning Education and Research, International Journal of Diversity, International Journal of Environmental, Cultural, Economic and Social Sustainability and Critical Planning. He has also authored numerous articles published in the Jakarta Post, the Strait Times, Savannah Morning News, Savannah Business Report and Journal, Urbanicity, Planetizen and other publications.
