Bio/Research Summary:

Ann Markusen is Professor of Urban Planning and Public Policy, Director of the Project on Regional and Industrial Economics, University of Minnesota, and author of more than a dozen books and more than 140 journal and book articles on economic development and planning. Her international work includes extended research and teaching in Korea, Brazil and Germany, often in collaboration with planning scholars, and resulting in the books Reining in the Competition for Capital, From Defense to Development; and Second Tier Cities. Markusen holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from Michigan State University.  She has served as Chair of the Committee on Science, Engineering and Publc Policy for the American Association for the Advancement of Science, President of the North American Regional Science Association, and Senior Fellow of the Council on Foreign Relations. Markusen has won the William Alonso Prize and Walter Isard Distinguished Scholarly Achievement awards in Regional Science and the Marguerite McCoy Award from ACSP.
