Title/Position:

Director, Data Intensive Computing Environments

Bio/Research Summary:

Dr. Moore leads development of data grid technology.  Data grids are used to organize distributed data into shared collections.  The properties of the shared collection are managed independently of the remote storage systems.  The current technology is called iRODS, integrated Rule Oriented Data System.  The iRODS data grid automates the execution of management policies, and periodically validates assessment criteria.  Data grids provide the distributed data management capabilities needed to support data sharing, data publication (digital libraries), data preservation (persistent archives), and data analysis.  Applications of data grids today manage more than 3 petabytes of data distributed across multiple continents.
